Talk
Baleen whales (mysticetes) evolved over 30 million years ago and today represent the biological extremes of animal body size. But they did not start out this way. Ruairidh Duncan is a PhD candidate studying the toothed baleen whales and the seas they lived in. In this talk we will be examining their evolution, the weird shapes and sizes these early mysticetes came in and the probable reasons why toothed baleen whales disappeared some 23 million years ago.
