This session features a screening of Ode to Kelp, followed by a panel conversation with Mel Barker (Western Port Biosphere Foundation) and Cam Hines (Southern Seagreens). Set within the UNESCO-listed Western Port Biosphere Reserve, the discussion will explore the ecological importance of kelp forests, the challenges they face, and the emerging role of sustainable seaweed farming. Drawing on local knowledge and practice, the session highlights how community, science, and industry can work together to support resilient coastal ecosystems. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage with the speakers and learn more about kelp-based solutions in action.
