Ella Hutchinson
Ella Hutchinson is a Melbourne-based marine researcher whose lifelong love of the ocean underpins her work in marine mammal research, conservation, and community engagement.
With a background in chemistry and zoology, Ella has worked across field, lab and desk-based research on marine mammals and phytoplankton. Her current work at the Dolphin Research Institute includes co-managing the Port Phillip Common Dolphin Project, which focuses on the long-term monitoring of Port Phillip’s unique community of resident common dolphins. She also co-manages two citizen science initiatives: Two Bays Whale Project and Killer Whales Australia.
Outside of the Institute, Ella works as a marine fauna observer, contributing to aerial surveys for marine mammals across Bass Strait.
