Chris Farrell

Chris has had a passion for nature for his entire life which now spans over 5 decades. He started wildlife photography as soon as bought his first camera at 18. He loves the beach and especially the ocean where his family either lived close to or holidayed each summer. Chris was inspired by Sir David Attenborough and wildlife photographer Steve Parish who is his mentor and good friend.

In 2011 Steve told Chris he should work on a project, and this started a great and satisfying journey for Chris. One of those was to complete aerial images of the entire Victoria coastline and in 2013 Chris decided that he would use his skills to help with the photographic identification of the endangered Southern Right Whale as a citizen scientist donating images to SEA SRW pic catalog controlled by researcher Mandy Watson and is now known as Whaleface. He has also donated access to his photographic library to the WWF Australia along with donations of money each year.

Through his relationship with Steve Parish, Chris meet Peter Rowland in 2015 and has since co authored 3 natural history books with Peter Rowland. They include “A Naturalist Guide to the Reptiles of Australia”, A Naturalist Guide to the Mammals of Australia” and “Australia’s Birdwatching Megaspots”.

In 2022 Chris bought his first ecotourism property known as Kurringai Cottage in Wangaratta South which teaming with wildlife and intends to donate 50% of his profit to conservation projects around Australia and the world
