Whales, Culture and Conversation: A Deep Dive with Leading Voices

Hear what it's like to work alongside some of the biggest creatures to ever live! Join us for a thought-provoking evening of science, storytelling and sea life as part of the Island Whale Festival 2025.

Hosted by ABC’s Belinda Smith, this compelling panel brings together three leading voices - Dr Wally Franklin, renowned for his decades of humpback whale research; Dr Chels Marshall, a marine ecologist and Indigenous sustainability expert; and Dr Jodi Edwards, a knowledge holder and academic exploring cultural connections between whales and First Nations communities.

Together, they’ll explore how Western science and Indigenous knowledge come together to deepen our understanding of marine life and the future of ocean conservation.

This event is perfect for curious minds with a passion for nature, marine ecosystems, and the stories that connect people to place.
